Christmas Celebration Day
Orthodox Christians around the world celebrate Christmas. In the churches of the Russian Orthodox Church in the 70 countries of the festive divine service in different languages. Service in the main church of Russia – Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow – had the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill. At night Christmas service at Christ the Savior came to the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
Russian President Vladimir Putin attended a Christmas service at the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in the village Turginovo Tver region, where his parents were baptized.
Christmas marks the end of forty days of fasting, in which the Orthodox confession and communion. Christmas night, many carried out in temples, to share the joy of the holiday, reminiscent of the incarnation of the Son of God on earth, Jesus Christ.

Christians celebrate Christmas in several calendars December 25 – the Gregorian and Novoyulianskomu, January 7 – Julian. Together with the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas Jerusalem, Polish, Georgian, Serbian Orthodox churches and monasteries of Mount Athos. They also joined the Eastern Rite Catholics and some Protestants, also living in the Julian calendar..
